The Colorado High School Activities Association (CHSAA) revised their statewide transfer rule during a recent legislative council that will impact student athletes who transfer to another school for any reason. The new rule states that after June 1, 2018, any student who transfers between schools without a “bona fide family move” or hardship waiver will lose his or her varsity eligibility for a full year in all sports that the student athlete participated in during the previous 12 months. The old rule dictated that such transfers resulted in eligibility loss for half the varsity season. The new rule does state that students will be allowed to play at the JV level during that period. Rising freshmen are exempt from this new rule.
